The most commonly treated areas are: crows feet (caused by squinting),
forehead lines (caused by raising the eyebrows), and lines between the
eyebrows (caused by frowning).
How does Botox Cosmetic Work?
Used in tiny amounts, BOTOX relaxes the muscles under the skin to create a smoother and refreshed appearance.
Yes. BOTOX is safe. It has been used for over 20 years to treat many diseases.
BOTOX is used in children, as young as 2 years old, to treat the spasticity of cerebral palsy. These children receive injections every 3 months using over 10 times the amount of BOTOX used for cosmetic applications. It is also used to treat excessive sweating, migraines and some forms of chronic pain.
The safety has been proven over the past 20 years through extensive testing and research.
Actually, the risks and side effects can be said to be much less than Tylenol.
BOTOX Cosmetic is a prescription drug and is approved by both the Health Protection Branch in Canada by the FDA in the USA .
How do I know that it won't be toxic to me or cause food poisoning?
Botox Cosmetic is not Botulism and it will not be toxic to you or cause food poisoning.
Botulism is the name of an illness not the name of the active drug.
Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein which is extracted from a naturally occurring bacteria and then rigorously processed under strict pharmaceutical
manufacturing guidelines. It is very similar to how penicillin comes from mould.
It is used in VERY TINY doses. For a cosmetic treatment, you may receive fewer than 100 units. In order to become ill from Botox Cosmetic – you would need to have 35 bottles injected into you all at one time. To make someone remotely sick, you would have to receive over 35 times this dose all at one time which would never happen. You are more likely to “poison” yourself with Tylenol (if you took the whole bottle at once!) than to ever remotely hurt yourself with BOTOX Cosmetic.
How long does the procedure take?
Generally, after the consultation, the procedure takes up to 15 minutes. Since there is no downtime, you can do it at lunchtime and then continue your day.
How is it done? Does it hurt?
BOTOX is injected with a very tiny needle. Most patients tolerate it very well only reporting a tiny pinching sensation with each injection.
How quickly does it work?
Although you may see results in a few days, it can take up to 2 weeks for it to take full effect.
How long does BOTOX Cosmetic last? Is it permanent?
Botox results are NOT permanent. The initial treatment usually lasts 3-4 months.
Most patients who get their first 3 treatments done “back to back” every 3 months (without waiting in between) find that:
….the 4th injection lasts about. 4 months
….the 5th treatment lasts about. 5 months
….and the following injections last about. 6 months
Therefore, most patients on this schedule can eventually save money by only requiring injections twice a year.
Is it going to be worse when it wears off?
No. Your face will never get worse if you stop using BOTOX Cosmetic or when it wears off. BOTOX will slow the clock of aging. If you stop getting treatments, the "aging clock" resumes like normal. If you use it for a number of years and then stop, you still benefit by saving years of wrinkle formation.
What are the side effects?
Side effects are rare and are not permanent. Occasionally, there can be some minor bruising (which is easily covered up with makeup) or a minor short term headache. Most patients do not experience any side effects at all.
Is it true you can get a drooping eyelid?
A RARE side effect is a temporary drooping eyelid. The incidence of this is less than 1% and will last from only days to a few weeks. Most patients do not experience any side effects at all.
Where does it go in my body?
BOTOX Cosmetic stays local to the muscle where it was injected. After the injection, it is simply metabolized and broken down into natural byproducts with a few hours.
The cost per treatment varies by each patient. A personal consultation with the doctor can give you a specific amount.
Botox is usually charged to clients by the unit. The number of units that you require will be discussed at your consultation.
I don't want to look “frozen” or like a mask without expression…will that happen?
No. We try to make the look as natural as you want. Most people say they want to look natural, relaxed and refreshed without looking “done”. Friends simply comment that they look rested and great!
